Got a call from a co worker today regarding a temp gen install at a customers facility. It seems that it is not a SDS but no grounded or EGC were installed from the generator to the panel or disco it is feeding in the facility. My coworker was told by the on site engineer that it was not required. He says the neutral conductor from the premises wiring will clear a fault if one were to occur.
My question is how is the fault current going to get back to the source (generator) if there was a fault with no neutral or EGC from the generator. The way I see it the only way any fault would clear is if it were phase to phase.
