During construction phase of intitial energizing of breakers. What is common method of temporary ID labeling. Some foremen from our electrical contractor state that duct tape is not compliant to code because it is metalized. ??
Metalized on metal cabinet front does not seem like it should be any concern.
Does anyone know if there are standards for what is or is not allowed?

appreciate your thoughts,

Regards

Tom

In all seriousness, did they send you for an insulated bucket or a skyhook?"

what wiring method? conduit, M.C. cable, or Romex? with all these methods you can number the wires with a label machine or with the books of labels you can pick up at the supply house and then write the numbers on a piece of paper and post it next to the panel (write with pencil so you can make changes) jobs with romex you can save pieces of the outer jacket and write notes on them and slip them over the wire before you land them on the breakers. I have also seen where the electrician cut pieces of poster board or some similar heavy paper, puched a hole in one end and slipped it over the wire and made notes on it. you can also flag white electrical tape and write on it.

Painter's tape works, or you can use electrical tape. Yellow, white or orange work well. Electrical tape is quicker to remove.

Duct tape and brown masking tape when left in place for a long time can be hard to remove, duct tape leaves a GOO and masking tape dries out.
