Temporary Lighting

Did you know that the Code requires removal of temporary, decorative lighting within 90 days? Due to other pressing matters such as wife in the hospital, weather, age, etc., my Christmas lights were off but still up. Then comes this letter from the City reminding me to take them down. I find that they are a lot easier to remove that they are to install..
 
Good reminder. I'd like to add that it's also Illegal to permenatly attach to vegatation. I have noticed recently alot of flood lights in peoples trees.

(B) 90 Days. Temporary electric power and lighting installations
shall be permitted for a period not to exceed 90 days
for holiday decorative lighting and similar purposes.

They hae time fo that!
What if you disconnect them. I now folks with hard to reach areas leave them on full time.

410.36 Means of Support.

(G) Trees. Outdoor luminaires and associated equipment
shall be permitted to be supported by trees.

Informational Note No. 1: See 225.26 for restrictions for
support of overhead conductors.

Informational Note No. 2: See 300.5(D) for protection of
conductors.

You can mount lights to trees but you cannot support overhead conductors.
 
If you have city officials telling you to take something like this down it is probably more of a "junk ordinance" reasoning than for electrical code reasons.
