Hello,

Some background...We have used 150 kw generators to power RV's (recreational vehicles) for about a 3 week rally period.....120/208 4w 3 phase 400 amps from the generator to a 400 amp panel (400-3P amp main, (3) 200A-3P breakers). Each 200A-3P feeds a 200 amp panel with (6) 30A-3P breakers. Each 30A-3P feeds a 10/5 SOOW cord with twist lock connectors (either 30', 60', 90' or 120') and terminates with a twist lock on a small pedestal with (3) 30A-1P breakers and (3) 120V 30A RV receptacles. The average current is about 16 to 23 amps each receptacle. The main load is the air conditioner.

Question...The 30A-1P breakers never trip, but when the day gets hot, the 200 amp panel gets a lot of sun, the buss heats from the inside and a 30A-3P breaker will occasionally trip cutting off (3) RV's. Does the code allow me to change the 30A-3P to a higher value? Again the main load is air conditioning and each RV has a load center or its own.

Many thanks for your help.

No.

I recommend getting the panel out the sun, that could be as simple as buying some beach umbrellas to shade the panel and if there is space move the breakers so there is a space between them.

paint it white or even try placing a fan to help cool it.Anything to get sun off it should help.Plastic tarp, etc

Pretty much the case, any kind of shade will help if there is space for airflow under what your using for shade.
