I am providing a temporary power service for construction power to a jobsite in Redwood City Ca. Project consists of two 6 story residential buildings.
The owner had someone do calc's and have made arrangements for the utility co to provide service to a 800 amp 277/480 volt switchboard, whichI will be installing. The project has 2 man lifts each of which draw 92 amps and are 480 volt , so I plan to install 2-125 amp 3 pole breakers in the switchboard, one for each man lift. Also, the construction office trailers will require a 200 amp 120/208 pnel, I plan to install 1-100 amp 3 pole breaker in the switchboard and then feed a 45kva transformer , then the 200 amp 120/208 panel.

The remaining main switchboard capacity will need to feed each of the 2 buildings, under a separate contract. Question is, what is the largest sized 3 pole breaker ( we will need 2 of them, one for each building) that we can install in the main switchboard ? Can i install 2 -400 amp 3 pole breakers? If so, what would be the maximum load that each one of the 400 amp breakers could hold?

Code wise you can install all 800 amp breakers, the only issue is the calculated loads

Of course in this case the load is more of a guess than a calculation
