We are installing facilies into a construction trailer park. (approximately 30 trailers)We are providing 6 gang meter centers. From the meter center the electrical contractor is running a urd. cable to a 4 x 4 post that will have a 100 amp breaker. My questions is do I need an additonal breaker under the meter center or is the one breaker on the 4x4 post adequate. When the construction trailer owner hooks in to this system they will connect their wires into the 100 amp breaker on the 4x4 post.

Re: Temporary Requirements

I don't think the NEC requires a disconnet at the 6 gang meter centers, but the serving utility might require that a disconnect be provided for their convenience when installing and removing meters. I'd suggest you check with the utility regarding their requirements for mobile home parks.

Re: Temporary Requirements

If this is a temporary installation, there would be no reason to install disconnects at the meter locations. If it were a permanent installation where meters were changed regularly, disconnects would be handy. This will probably be a utility company reg. rather than an NEC issue.

Re: Temporary Requirements

Take a peek at 550.4(A) and 550.11.

How does temporary or permanent installation affect the disconnect requirement(s)?

Re: Temporary Requirements

550.4 and 550.11 are dealing with the distribution equipment inside the mobile home. The question is about service equipment which would be covered by 550.32 or perhaps part VII of article 551.

Re: Temporary Requirements

Our commercial service dept did a construction trailer hook up 2 months ago and it turned into a nightmare :D
4 single wide office trailers that each had a 100 amp panel to each, that were bolted together. They set 2 200 anp t poles (This is temporary until project is done.Fed 2 out of one 200 and the other 2 out of the other.Electrical inspector passed the install but the building inspector tagged it.
No way 1 trailer 1 meter. So they paid us to retro a 400 amp service and made them pull all new permits(now commercial building not a construction trailer)
These trailer sit on what will be a homesite as the project dwindles down.1,1128 homes to be built
