I understand that the service entrance disconnect needs to be equipped with Ground Fault protection, have a bonding jumper on the supply side between ground and neutral, and be labeled as "Service Disconnect". Does that label need to come from the manufacturer? In other words, can gear be used that meets the first two requirements but does not have a label installed? Looking at temporary solutions for a "Service Entrance" rated switchboard due to lead times. Thanks in advance!

So you are saying that the disconnect doesn't have the label "Service Disconnect" ?

Art 230.70 makes it clear. I believe, at least in my limited commercial experience, the electrician was responsible for the labelling if it didn't come with the equipment. Someone here may disagree...

(B) Marking.
Each service disconnect shall be permanently marked to identify it as a service disconnect.

Been a while but as best I recall every piece of equipment I purchased that was suitable for service disconnect came with a factory sticker.
230.70 does not indicate field or factory

If you are under 2020 or later you might want to keep this thread in mind:

Thanks, Everyone. That's essentially what I am after - does the gear need to be labeled as "Suitable for Service Disconnect" or "Service Entrance Rated" by the manufacturer? I agree the NEC Does not indicate "field" or "Factory".

I think I found it in Section 230.66. It states, "...All service equipment shall be listed or field evaluated".
