temporary wiring to plant heaters

I am being asked to run 3 phase 480 VAC to some heaters in my plant. Does article 400 allow exceeding 50 ft. total length? Do I have to run the cord in cable tray or can I suspend it overhead?

No limit to length of the run and you can run it pretty much how ever you want.

But it must really be temporary and there are time limits.

You need to read Article 595.
