I am inspecting a job where the general wants to leave the romex wiring for the temporary lighting in the ceiling overhead and just kill it. I told him to make sure all of it is removed, but could not give him a code reference. Any ideas?

IMO You are the AHJ and what your asking him to do is covered under the NEC as Dennis stated and I looked it up for myself. He needs to take the temp wiring out case closed. Now is he asking for a code refc. do your not carry a code book in your truck? Just asking not trying to be a smart alec ;). I have been on remodels where the temp wiring was left from previos new construction and remodels and some times it will be several abandoned exsisting temp wirings that tend to clog up the cieling and then these become the next ECs problem, been down that road, removing some other ECs mess, you are right on on this one,.
