afci Protection is optional. Heh, :-?

Yes. These are quite radical departures from the code, wouldn't you say?:-?

"In Article 210.12(B) of the 2008 edition of the National Electrical Code, arc-fault circuit interrupters, combination type, shall be required for all bedrooms and in all other rooms shall be optional. There shall be a maximum of no more than ten (10) outlets on a fifteen (15) ampere circuit or no more than twelve (12) outlets on a twenty (20) ampere circuit."

I guess those at my county code office dont know what is going on or our county does not have to adopt what the state adopts. Im confused.

Not that it is ridigly enforced, but TN State Code also states:

"0780-2-1-.17 LOCAL ORDINANCES.
No city, county, town, municipal corporation, metropolitan government or political subdivision of this state shall
adopt or enforce any ordinance prescribing less stringent electrical standards than those established hereunder as
determined by the Division
. "

Do you have a source for that so that I may also have access to?

After reading over that link the part stating:
0780-2-1-.17 LOCAL ORDINANCES.
No city, county, town, municipal corporation, metropolitan government or political subdivision of this state shall

determined by the Division.
Applies to the document. And accoring to the document it refers to the 2002.
0780-2-1-.02 ADOPTION BY REFERENCE. Unless otherwise provided by applicable law or the provisions of
this chapter, the required minimum standards for materials, installations, use of facilities, equipment, devices and
appliances conducting, conveying, consuming or using electrical energy in, or in connection with, any building,
structure, or any premises located in this state shall be those prescribed in the National Electrical Code, 2002 edition,
published by the National Fire Protection Association, Batterymarch Park, Quincy, Massachusetts 02269.

Sorry, I forgot, they have not update that document. This link is to the legislation which just passed. Among other things it replaced "2002" with "2008" in the wording.
The revised version of 0780-2-1 should be avaialbale shortly.

Thank you for that info. Now I know I will need the 2008 book by the end of this month. Im still wondering why our county code office is telling me different.

Please take note in my earlier post that I mentioned this rule is rarely enforced, and "requiring" a city or area with its own inspection authority
to adpot the State codes usually happens only if someone presses the issue.
