Looking for help understanding the personal licensing requirements.
Do I applying test for a CE license, without the business law portion for personal license?
Considering a move to the Knoxville area.

Thanks,

Bob

TN has a number of different licenses for performing electrical work. The two primary ones are the C-E unlimited license and the Limited License Electrician license. As best I recall the LLE license does not include the Law and Tax portion in the C-E exam.
Be careful, however, the LLE license does not allow you to work in the Incorporated areas of the State that have there own licensing requirements like Knoxville (The C-E does allow you to obtain a license in those area with no additional testing)

Do you know if these licenses are required? I read somewhere that only the company owner has to be licensed, not each individual employee.

Any idea if the C-E can be taken without the Law & Tax portion, or are they only valid in combination?

You either take the CE test with Law/Tx or LLE without. No other options that I'm aware of.

You are correct in that as far as the State is concerned, the contractor must hold a valid license and the folks he employs do not (The State has no journeyman license). This is not necessarily true for the other geographical areas that require licenses as many of those require journeyman licenses
(again, no test is required IF the C-E holder requests a journeyman license)

The last time I checked you could take just the Code portion of the exam but no certificate would be issued All you get is the warm fuzzy feel of passing.
