Terminal Box as raceway.

I have always thought that it was against code to use a terminal box on a machine as a raceway. You couldn't run wiring through such a box without terminated them on a terminal strip first. I can't seem to find this in the N.E.C. or in the N.F.P.A. 79 book however. You guys have been such a help in the past. If you know of the article and the book where I can find this info it would really help support my argument. Thanks.

While I think it is a poor practice, IMO it is allowed. If you find a code stating differently, I would like to see it quoted.:)

It's perfectly fine. But as said above "not a good practice". My school of thought is the least amount of connections the better. If there is no reason to terminate in the terminal box, why add more connections? Now, if you are building a panel, it is a good idea to use a terminal strip to accomodate all wiring leaving the panel and wiring entering the panel. Makes troubleshooting much easier. And you can pull the panel out without disturbing the internal wiring.
