Hi all
In a wind energy system where you have an output of 690V stepped up to 34.5kV by Y-D transformer and step it up further from 34.5kV to 115kV to connect to the transmission grid using a D-Y grounded transformer.
In this regard the 34.5kV MV system is in between two delta sides of the transformers. To be able to detect ground fault at this segment we could use zig-zag transformer at the MV switchgear bus or use three winding transformer for the 34.5kV/115kV trannsformer (Delta tertiary).
I could understand how the zig zag transformer works but for the three winding transformer option is still unknown to me.
Could you help me understand how could we detect L-G fault using tertiary winding? how it is connected to the ground?
kind regards and thank you all
