test 115V motor

I have a 115v motor powering a pump for a mosquito fogger. Not sure on the size but i would guess its 1-2 HP. Its tripping the GFI thats its plugged into so i am wondering if there is a way to test the motor. I get 2 ohms between where the neutral and hot connect.

If you megged from neutral to hot, you might have hosed things up.

Post your readings from neutral to ground and from hot to ground with any operating switches or thermostats set to the closed position.

"open"? You mean you got full scale readings on the megger? Or did you use an ohm-meter?

If, in fact, you got full scale readings, you might have an improperly wired GFCI or a failed GFCI. Will the GFCI stay set up when other loads are applied, such as a 500W work light?

i don't have a megger on hand to test it with, i was hoping there was some way i could check if anything was obviously wrong by using a multimeter.

A guy from work brought the motor in. Apparently it just runs the pump for his fogger. When its plugged in, the gfi trips. if he unplugs it, the gfi is fine

It seems like you might be a factory electrician, so that might give you a little bench time to tinker. Lacking a megger, plug the unit into a regular circuit and measure the milliamps flowing on the ground wire and see what you measure.
