Evening

Im looking for test questions and answers in multiple choice format. Conductor ampacity, correction factors and adjustments. PDF format would be great. Want to practice! Thanks

Plans Examiner 2012 Test Question

I have seen this question twice and still don't know if I answered correctly: There are (7) 500kcmil conductors in a pipe with THWN. What is the ampacity of the conductors? That's it, no mention of temperature or pipe size. The multiple choice answers start as hi as 380 amps which is the conductor listed ampacity for the size and insulation, or other values less than 380amps. Anyone seen this before?

Without more information we're just guessing. Could be 380*80%=304 amps for each conductor. 6 CCC's+1 neutral

One conductor being a neutral is assuming a fact not in evidence. Your answer would "likely" be marked wrong IMO.

As stated with the info provided we're just guessing. Having said that my answer is no more wrong than the answer provided by Dennis. You have never seen two-3 phase circuits in a raceway one with a neutral and one without?

I'm not saying your answer is wrong. I'm just saying roundabout it is open to interpretation. Ultimately there's only one positive-score answer, and that's the one the question's author desires.

Bad question for sure however since no neutral is mentioned IMO you have to assume all are current carrying conductors. I sometimes wonder if the people who make up these exams ever take the test themselves.... I will add that it is not an easy task.

I agree poor question, Dennis provided one answer which is probably what the writer had in mind but if 266 amps wasn't on the answer list then you would need to search for an alternative calculation.
