Testing CH50SPA GFI

My spa had been successfully working for 4 years.

Recently I did some work on the fiberglass to repair a very small leak in the spa itself and as a result it was down for 2 weeks.

After the repairs were completed, I filled the spa and the GFI would trip out when I tried to turn the power on again. The GFI is a Cutler Hammer CH50SPA installed by a licensed electrician and inspected by the town, passed and has been operating for 4 years.

My research on the internet suggests that the GFI can go bad. Is there a test to see if the GFI has gone bad or do I indeed have a situation that is causing the breaker to trip.

I hesitate to replace the breaker without knowing if it is bad, cost >$150.

The forum rules prohibit us from giving advice to DIYer's, and trouble shooting from a keyboard would just be a bunch of speculation anyway. I suggest having a well known local EC check it out, they would have the knowledge of the test procedures and the equipment to perform the tests, it may be something very simple.

Good luck

Roger
