testing GFPE

how many electricians here test there GFPE systems? we install a lot of 480 volt services that have GFPE in the main panel and we never test them or even set them we leave them at factory settings. i was wondering whats involved in testing and setting them properly

We do the following.

We test at all factor presets for current, and at the coordination study settings for time delay operation Which are never supplied..

We ductor/micro-ohm the power contacts.

Megger line, load line to load across the power contacts with the switch open.

Megger neutral to ground with the neutral disconnect link removed.

We leave the GFP set at minimum during construction and either we return or leave instruction to the EC how to adjust to final settings NEVER SUPPLIED by the engineers.

Everyone with GFPE in their service gear should be getting it tested.
It is a code requirement 230.95 ( C ) Performance Testing

your equipment supplier should provide one visit for setup/testing/certification (I thought that was required for the ul listing on the gear ? - at any rate, it seems like its always required by our local inspectors prior to final )
