Testing UPS emergency lighting

First, I'm in safety, not an electrician. We have a building that runs 24/7 and has tube fixtures wired in parallel with normal lighting circuits and a UPS supply. Since the buidling runs 24/7 performance testing of the lights would require turning off the lighting panels and disrupt operations. The maintenance of the UPS system and lights is documented per manufacturing and site procedures. Do code requirements require performance testing or is documented maintenance of the system acceptable?
