I am currently looking to relocate to the Houston TX area from Louisiana and would like to get my license in Texas. I currently do not hold a license in Louisiana because I work under my company's. Also the same for my previous company. My question is, is it possible to get this license with credible experience. I have 5 years in construction and 6 years in maintenance. I have tried to contact the licensing board in Austin, but can never seem to get a hold of anybody. Plus all e-mails to them go unanswered. If anyone can help with an answer it would be greatly appreciated. Especially anyone who is in Texas.

Thanks in advance,
Jeremy

Hi, Jeremy

If you have no kind of license then you will have to start from scratch as an apprentice unless you can show enough work history to satisfy the state and they might let you take the journeyman test.

This is the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation FAQ page which will answer most of your questions:

http://www.license.state.tx.us/electricians/elecfaq.htm#l5

This is the address to email with specific questions:

electricians@license.state.tx.us

If you have some kind of license then Texas will accept your Louisiana license and issue an equivalent license.

Good luck

I too am in the same situation as you. I took my apprenticeship program in Connecticut. I was registered to take the journeymans test in july of 2006 but relocated to texas to work in the oil sector. I am looking to take some code refresher courses and hopefully take the texas code test. Please let me know if you get any info from texas on what you need to do. Thanks and Good Luck.
