Anyone in the eastern time zone getting random advertisement text messaging on their cell phones ? If so, any idea on how to stop them ? I got at least 4 today and I'm already registered with National Do Not Call.

Thanks,

Phil

That is because it is your carrier texting you at $ .25 per text.

My wife got 5 yesterday alone. All some sort of spam. Does the do not call list apply to spam text messages?

As far as I know you only have 1 good choice: call your provider and tell them you don't want the text messaging service

Worse than text messages, is when some foreign-language speaking kid gets ahold of a Nextel and starts punching in random direct connect numbers until he finds a connection...

I'm thinking Do not call are the key words. It doesn't say anything about DO Not Text !!!

Calling Verizon is surely an option BUT THERE'S NO ONE IN THE OFFICE ON THE WEEKENDS !!! Why can't I run my business this way and be as successful as they are ?:-?

The phone company's just released their phone lists to be purchased at will. Now my Bride grabbed my phone and dialed some number to not get some calls on my Cell phone.

Google article I'm talking about inside link

A search of Google has this 2005 article, I thought the FED just stopped or dropped the release of cell numbers I guess that...

Hope this helps

I contacted Verizon (my provider) and hopefully came up with the solution. Apparently there is a nation-wide problem that they are trying to solve. If Verizon is your provider you'll have to do the following :

Go to www.verizonwireless.com
Click on "My Account" and log in
If you don't have an account you'll have to go through the steps and set one up.
After you've done that go to www.vtext.com and log in
On the left side under options click on Preferences
Under Preferences click on Text Blocking
On the top right of the screen under the heading Block all messages sent from e-mail select Yes
Under the heading Block all messages sent from the Web select Yes

Leave the remaining one selected as No

Make sure you SAVE the setting at the bottom of the page.

Good luck,

Phil

BTW, if you have more than one cell phone # under your account, as long as your # is the primary account, once you make this change it should work for all the phone #'s under that primary account.

I've had Verizon for years (on the west coast) and never a text message from them. Is it a problem just back east?

So far, everyone I've spoken to (even Verizon employees) have mentioned that they are getting these random text messages. Verizon claims it's a nation-wide problem but from information I'm receiving I think it is restricted to the northeast
