I contacted Verizon (my provider) and hopefully came up with the
solution. Apparently there is a nation-wide problem that they are trying to solve. If Verizon is your provider you'll have to do the following :
Go to
www.verizonwireless.com
Click on "My Account" and log in
If you don't have an account you'll have to go through the steps and set one up.
After you've done that go to
www.vtext.com and log in
On the left side under options click on
Preferences
Under Preferences click on
Text Blocking
On the top right of the screen under the heading
Block all messages sent from e-mail select
Yes
Under the heading
Block all messages sent from the Web select
Yes
Leave the remaining one selected as
No
Make sure you
SAVE the setting at the bottom of the page.

BTW, if you have more than one cell phone # under your account, as long as your # is the primary account, once you make this change it should work for all the phone #'s under that primary account.
