TFFN

I'm looking at past discussions on this, but can't seem to get a strait answer.
TFFN is listed in the NEC (Art 402) as a fixture wire, with very limited "Uses Permitted".
Why? When you spec THHN from a supplier, of course they send TFFN for #16-#18AWG, and will tell you it's the same insulation, if not better.
Why is the NEC saying TFFN cannot be used for control, PLC, state, etc... circuits?
Thanks!

Re: TFFN

If you look your wire is probably quad-rated as TFFN/MTW/AWM/TEW.

TFFN is not better than THHN it is just different. I believe straight TFFN is actually only rated 60C. I do not know of any THHN made smaller than #14.

Re: TFFN

Thanks for the reply.
This wire is "TFFN" listed only, 90 deg C.
Just as the NEC has it listed.
Perhaps 402.10 "Uses Permitted" needs to be expanded upon?
There sure is alot of areas for use between 402.10 "Uses Permitted" and 402.11 "Uses Not Permitted"

Re: TFFN

Of course you can't use #16 fixture wire for general branch circuits. 210.3 says the minimum branch circuit size is 15A. 725.27 allows #16 TFFN for class 1 circuits.
