I know that when I install 2 by 4 light fixtures in a t-bar ceiling that you have to support each corner of the fixture with grid wire. I don't know where in the code it says to do this. Can anyone help me find it. I am installing can lights in a t-bar ceiling and am wondering if I have to do the same for them.

The NEC does not require that lay in fixtures be supported like that. The NEC permits the grid to support the fixture. Building codes often require the supports like you are talking about.

Usually you do. I think it's to prevent them from falling down on fireman incase the suspended ceiling gives way. But our code requires us to fasten the fixture to the ceiling grid.
Don't make a lot of sense to me.
