Has anyone every used this product. It converts a standard downlight to a surface mounted fixture. It is a great idea. Comes with a medallion http://www.thecanconverter.com/

I just got 2 of them for this retro job and I noticed that it is UL listed for ceiling fans. I can't imangine trusting a recessed can that is spanning in the middle of say a 24" truss for fan support. It is listed for it but I don't think I would use it for that purpose.

Anyway it is an interesting product. I will install it tomorrow morning for a conversion from downlight to lightweight pendant.

I just spent 2 decades taking out octagons with a 3/4" HR and three 1/2" EMT's in it and installing recessed fixtures. Now they want the ceiling fixture back???

This part is easy now with the kit ($32.00) and you can convert back to the can when the next generation wants cans again.

Everything old becomes new again. Nothing to worry about until what becomes new again is stuff you remember as a kid!

I just finished converting two recessed cans to pendants with this kit and it took less than 30 minutes to do both. Was very easy and quite strong. I still don't think I would put a fan on it.

Right here.
I ordered one of these things today just to have around. I can't even remember the last time somebody wanted a can changed to a regular fixture, but I figure it will be a neat novelty to have just in case.

I noticed the website was selling it for $39.99 with 7.99 shipping.

I paid $32.00 from our local lighting Showroom.
