Light bulb legislation, Bill #H.R.1547

Light bulb legislation, Bill #H.R.1547

Follow the link below to the ALA web site below for more information on the new legislation. It doesn't totally "end" the existence of the A-lamp as we now know it, but it will eliminate some. Very much of this legislation was re-written after much lobbying by the ALA. The reason was, that so much in the way of decorative lighting would be gone if every incandescent bulb was banned. If you look at the bill, the bulbs that will go away are the ones that don't meet "efficiency" standards, or produce "x" lumens per watt. Therefore, many incandescent lamps will survive this bill simply by virtue of their efficiency. And, so that the lighting industry can continue to sell chandeliers that sport exposed lamps, the lamp manufacturers will be creating new versions of the old flame tip bulbs that use halogens and other gasses to improve their efficiency. Many other incandescent lamps will undergo some similar changes over the next 5-10 years. The lighting industry has seen many changes in the last 10 years, and there will be a lot more to come in the next 10 as well. One place to help keep up-to-date is ALA, but also check out the web sites for the various major lamp manufacturers. They always have the latest scoop on these things too.
