I know this deals mostly with 'drains' but it did mention about the 'pump' automatically being shut off. So this would involve electricians as well. Have anyone else heard of this article??
How do you wire your spas, pools or even hot tubs now?

I was told that even though the emergency shut off had to be 5' away from the hot tub, there still had to be some type of auto shut off on the hot tub, I have NOT found this in the NEC.

check out the article.

Here's another bump for you brother.

680.41 Emergency Switch for Spas and Hot Tubs.
A clearly labeled emergency shutoff or control switch for the purpose of stopping the motor(s) that provide power to the recirculation system and jet system shall be installed at a point readily accessible to the users and not less than 1.5 m (5 ft) away, adjacent to, and within sight of the spa or hot tub. This requirement shall not apply to single-family dwellings.

Just my guess but I doubt there will be anything for ECs.

As of 12/20/08, every public pool and spa, new and existing,
that has a single outlet, other than an unblockable outlet,
must employ one or more of the following additional options:

? Safety vacuum release system (SVRS) that complies
with ANSI/ASME A112.19.17 or ASTM F2387; or

? Suction limiting vent system; or

? Gravity drainage system; or

? Automatic pump shut-off; or

? Drain disablement; or

? Equivalent system that may be approved by the CPSC.

My feeling is the pool installers will pick a method they can do without us.
