There were 10 "big blue" stores around the area where I would display dozens of business cards on their EC's cork boards every month. Now they are taking all of these boards down and said no more business cards. The "big orange" store use to let you advertise your cards up until about 2 1/2 years ago, then they pulled all their boards from their stores. I asked several store employees and no one knows why big blue is getting rid of the cork advertising boards. Is it because they might realize the work they are losing for their own electricians that they employee that install fans and such? Any thoughts?

One word- Liability.

I can't believe that Home Depot allowed it 2-1/2 years ago. It has been their policy for a loong time to not give out business cards or names of electricians because of liability that it imposes.
I'm not saying the some employees might not be giving out names/numbers, but as policy, it is not allowed.

Kind of makes me wish they would stop selling electrical panels, wire, etc. I cant tell you how many times I have been in a big box store and seen some schmoe pushing a cart with everything to rewire a mansion. Todd, on a different subject, I liked your picture on your profile of you beating the crap out of those drums. You need a good cow bell player for your band? :D

LMAO, I feel the need for more cow bell. :D

Interesting point, too much liability to post business cards but selling the supplies is OK.

Re: The fun is over.

Well in my parts you can only buy HVAC supplies if you have a license or account with a supply house. If I want to go buy freon to charge my home AC system and dont have a license it aint going to happen. Now if I want to slap a 200A panel on my house and use the old 100A meter base and 100A service wires well then I can just go to one of the big box stores and get my supplies. :D

Everybody has to beat something, right? I can't beat my wife, soo...

Never like to pass up on a good Cow Bell player. The pay is actually higher than Bass Guitar wages. :D

In State Band, I once beat out all competition for First Chair Triangle. I got to sit between First Chair CowBell and First Chair Slide-Whistle. Nobody wanted to sit next to First Chair Kazoo, he tapped his foot off-tempo. :D :D

As for H.D., that used to be their policy. Maybe it's changed.
The way it was explained to me, they could sell any product, but they weren't supposed to tell people how to hook it up or who to call, because of liability issues.
Somewhere, someone must have screwed something up and ruined it for everybody.

Re: The fun is over.

I was speaking with a manager of our local Big Blue a few weeks back,I was informed that they are about to start selling whole houses, ground up to turn key, and apparently they are going to have in house contractors do all of the work.
Could be that they don't want to have the home buyers see the advertisement for anyone but their in house contractors.

Re: The fun is over.

Luke Warmwater.....

So it's not ok for the orange box to refer a customer to a "QUALIFIED AND LISCENSED" person but it is ok for their "UN-QUALIFIED EMPLOYEE" who was asking last week "Want fries with that?" to stand in the middle of the isle and explain to the customer how to put in an outlet?

Get real!!!!!!

Dude, you need to chill out.

First of all, I never said that it was ok for their "UN-QUALIFIED EMPLOYEE" who was asking last week "Want fries with that?" to stand in the middle of the isle and explain to the customer how to put in an outlet?

But I did say, but they weren't supposed to tell people how to hook it up

I know first hand what the Home Depot policy is, do you?

Not every store associate in Home Depot, or Lowes for that matter, is some bubble-gum chewing red-headed step child (for which I am one). There are, in fact some associates who are Licensed Plumbers, Licensed Electricians, and so on.

Now, I'd love to discuss this with you even farther, but frankly, the intellectual stimulation would really quite bore me.
