My friend *hobbit* has a habit of analyzing and writing about seemingly innocent things, like a stage lighting DMX splitter box...
DMX512 is a standard for stage lighting controls; it's RS-485 at 250 kbps and has instructions for terminating lines, using splitters, etc. It's designed go be easy to set up. It also attracts cheap components because it usually works.
So, *hobbit* decided to look at the effects of termination, bias, and slew rate, on the signal and did up a nice web page showing all about these things. If you work with RS-485, pay attention to what he's written, especially at higher speeds.
