I was just peeking at the proposal/draft for the 2014 NEC.
962 pages
That is a lot of pages of info, let alone the UL White book and other documents, including the Building Codes.
This can only mean much more money for those who have studied this document and either provide training and/or consulting.
I have chosen to work less hours in this industry, but don't be fooled, I still study this stuff (I just spend less time studying than before).
Yet I have changed my rated (I doubled them 2 years ago), and I was told that less people would call me. They were correct. Less people call me and the ones who call me, make my life a pleasure. Why? Percentage of profit more than doubled and I work less time....HMMM, sounds good to me.
With this industry growing in size and complexity, my advice to the younger guys who may be considering a change from the field but are unsure. STUDY. LISTEN. PAY ATTENTION. BE PATIENT. Do not expect to become an expert overnight. It will pay off in big dividends.
I will also sincerely state that this site, of which I spent a lot of time in was a big part of the reason for my success. Having discussions here (some very heated - sorry to those I may have offended) was wonderful for my development. The diversity of people here and the abundance of knowledge - both field and book - is unparalleled. Take advantage of it, and you will go far.
