My buddy just started his career in the HVAC field and I was rubbing it in his face that for my trade we have Mike Holt to "show us the way". He asked me if there is a "Mike Holt" kind of guy that produces DVD's, books, etc., for HVAC. I looked in a search engine but didn't find anything so I thought I would bring my buddies question to you guys. Thanks for any info! :)

Re: The "Mike Holt" of HVAC

To: cartman, I am an instructor and one of the subjects that I teach is "Electrical Controls for HVAC/R Systems". In my opinion you are not a complete HVAC/R technician, until you can read ladder diagrams, schematics of HVAC/R systems. So, tell your buddy to keep up with the electrical trade, it will make him a very valuable commodity when he might be looking for a job. On the subject of a person that would be in the HVAC/R field, like Mike is in the electrical field, I do not believe that you will find one.
I do know that their are some very excellent schools for HVAC/R. Carrier in Syracuse, New York for one, but there are others, I am not aware of them, like I am of Carrier.

Re: The "Mike Holt" of HVAC

There are some good forums for HVAC stuff...I've looked into it a bit, since a lot of it seems to be electrical stuff anyway, I kinda figured why not learn them both... :) Just look around, and you'll find sites...I've found a few, but I can't remember them at the moment. :)

Re: The "Mike Holt" of HVAC

Thanks guys. John, I just found that site the other night so I haven't really had much time to read much on it. My boss is a master electrician and master HVAC tech so when I go on a job with someone 1/2 the time its an HVAC trouble shooting call. I looked online for a DVD that would show me how to simply hook up a residential thermostat and found nothing. It would have been nice to find a DVD like 1 of Mikes that walks you through the process of control wiring for HVAC, maybe someday. :)

If your friend wants to read a good book I'd suggest Modern Refrigeration And Air Conditioning it's a little pricey but it's full of info.
