I have been using this small but very flexable electrical estimating system for about ten years. resi and commercial jobs. My new boss is willing to invest in some real software . I have demoed aces. vision, conest. they seem to have a huge learning curve. I just love my small TNE. Do you guys think that it would be in best intrest to take him on his offer ? He is willing buy the one i like the best. Do I realy need all the bells and whisles. I see that alot of you guys use your own spread sheets. or do estimating old school. any advise would be great.

Alot depends on the size of the project. For small stuff TNE works great I have modified it over the years to fit what we do.

for big projects you want the bells and whistles

I use TNE for a lot of my stuff and as Rewire said

I have found that after modifying it for my needs I can give a flat price for things and come out about what it says I should on time for that job. But you only know what you do as far as size of job and your needs.

There are some other threads on estimating software out there. I have never used the one you are referencing. I have seen Means and if it is similar it sure won't do what needs to be done for any larger commercial projects as well as maintain pricing and assemblies.

The learning curve for the ConEst and AccuBid is really only a week or two. The biggest key is learning where things are located in the databases.

Tne ?

Tne ?

What is that? I used ConEst and Accubid and also XLM sheets. Conest is good for what your looking for but if you start to generate a bunch of files bidding on small jobs. The program cant handle the size of the database. And then expect some downtime.

I dont have much to say about accubid. Thats because I lost that pain in the rear Hasp Key. Do you be leave that they want $3000 for a new key.

Im going to use the cd's as target practice.
