We'll go back 20 years for this post, when AFCIs were first introduced in the Code (actually the 1996 NEC with a Jan 1, 1999 start date. They were very controversial and a lot of questions came to the forum, so much so, we had special topic just for AFCIs, with someone from Eaton as a moderator (does anyone remember that?) Eaton gave out a sample kit, I think it went to moderators, I still have mine. Its missing one AFCI on the inside. I am not sure what to do with it, in 30 years it may be a nice collectors item.
Anyway we got a lot of questions on AFCIs. There still is debate on how effective they are.
