Teaching theory is far wider in scope than teaching the cut-and-dry lessons like NEC
or the basic electricity.

Lessons in Ohm's Law or any empirical formula using garden variety equations . . . most often used in the electrical trade industry can hardly be debated in classrooms. They are fixed. There may be arguments that may arise, but disagreement happens when someone's interpretation differs from accepted norm.

Theory on the other hand is not fixed, it involves hypotheses, opinions and beliefs to name few including educated guesses.

Unlike the mundane info acquired from passed-along practices that some hack would call "The University of Hard Knocks" where the electrical trade workers learn from others' experience, is essential to come up with concrete result.

The main focus of teaching theory is not about reaching for the discernible answer. There is no right or wrong in the area of theory.

Satisfaction among listeners lies where one debater can explain convincingly why his opinion should be considered.

Whether his word would live to be the mantra is doubtful as long as there's someone who can offer an opinion of his own.

Your student would be better off going to a bachelor studies if he really wants to deal with theories.
