I have to provide 208/120 power to an indoor therapeutic whirlpool. I've searched through article 680 - Swimming Pools, Fountains, and Similar Installations for a minimum distance of the disconnect to the whirpool. Does anyone know if there is a minimum distance that the disconnect has to be from the whirlpool?

Thanks.

Re: Therapeutic Whirlpool

I could be wrong but I believe it is at least 6 feet from the tub but in immediate sights of the tub in the same room.

Re: Therapeutic Whirlpool

680.12 Maintenance Disconnecting Means.
One or more means to disconnect all ungrounded conductors shall be provided for all utilization equipment other than lighting. Each means shall be accessible and within sight from its equipment.
Note that the disconect is not required to be readly accessible just accessible. But we must look at:

680.60 General.
The provisions of Part I and Part VI of this article shall apply to pools and tubs for therapeutic use in health care facilities, gymnasiums, athletic training rooms, and similar areas. Portable therapeutic appliances shall comply with Parts II and III of Article 422.
To see what parts of 680 applys to Therapeutic Tubs.

But are we realy talking about a therapeutic Tub or a Hydromassage bathtub? one would be found in health care facilities, and the other would be found in a dwelling.

A "Maintenance Disconnecting Means" is all that apply's to ether unless it is a hot tub in other than a dwelling to which 680.12 is the requirment.

Re: Therapeutic Whirlpool

I'm dealing with a health care facility. The only definition I have of the tub is it is a whirlpool. It is being located by the nurses work area so it is for therapeutic use as I envision it.

Thanks.
