I have contacted Southwire Company regarding the suitability of using THHN wire that has sustained damage to parts of the Nylon jacket. They can provide a nice memo to you that says it is ok to use as long as the PVC is intact and there is no exposure to oils or gasoline. The Nylon protects the PVC in pulling and in chemically challenging applications.

Welcome to the forum and thanks for sharing that.

It has been discussed before here but not everyone got to see it.

A very common problem with THHN.....I'll bet everyone is guilty of knicking the nylon a time or two or three............

But it doesn't matter, and it is removed for UL's testing anyways.

I agree with Tom. Welcome to the forum.

We had a similar problem with Suthwire Sim-pull last winter. The outer jacket would crack and literally pop right off in 5' sections just from bending the conductors.

We had Southwire come out and look at our nylon jacket situation. Must of it came off while it was coming off of the reels.
They offered to have it megged. We took them up on it. It failed.

I think the cable was bad but not due to the lack of the nylon jacket.
