An example of the pains that an energy thief will go through to cheat the utility company. This subject took possession of a new home, and immediately cut into the riser from the inside and tapped into the underground lines!

A better view of the cut riser and the wiring that was tapped into. The subject extended the wiring into the attic where a secondary set of circuit breakers was discovered.

The truly disheartening thing here is that, judging by the use of split bolts and the quality of the tape job, this appears to be done by someone with an electrical background. Certainly someone who should have known better. I guess cutting down on the electric bill was more important than the neighborhood children, the family living in the house and the poor slob from the phone company that will someday have to access that demarcation box.

Probably a dope farm inside...

In south FL, they've been locating some of them from abnormally high meter readings.

How much you wanna bet the remote wireless meter reading trend is going to generate a lot more of this sort of thing? The dope farmers are probably quivering with anticipation ;->

Pretty crafty work...

I'm sure he observed proper safety guidelines when tapping into the un-fused conductors... :D
