As the principal offender I feel I should respond.

One person complained. That's it. Thread gone.

While I have no problem with the decision to remove the thread, this is a privately owned site, I have a HUGE problem with the reason the thread was removed.

The fact there was one complaint out of thousands of members is a sad and scary reflection of todays society. For one person to wield such power is frightening.

We are free to speak our minds at will and we do. But when one person can claim that they are offended and there are people that will immediately act to placate this one person while the majority have no issue with the so called offensive material.....well what good is the freedom to begin with?

Let's be honest we all say things that some person somewhere can find offensive. Would you be comfortable knowing that all it takes to silence you is that one person complaining? Like I said very sad and scary.

well, I only have 2 things to rant about this thread:

1) I am all for treating animals with kindness and respect. To killl for food, kill quickly, just as I would like to be if an animal decided to eat me. Let's face it though, not all people have yet learned, since recorded history, how to treat each other well, so its pretty much a no brainer that the mayhem will continue (if there's any doubts, just watch the news)
what, if anything, a cartoon of a dead horse has to do with anything I don't know.

2) If it was in any way me that offended the person in question, I do apologize. However, with that being said, one may have jumped to the conclusion that the pic I posted had something to do with mistreatment. That has yet to be determined. Many of those traversing the west back in the day overworked or underwatered their horses, and caused them to die. The pic I posted is purported to be of one of those instances. It just so happens that many jurisdictions got fed up with people leaving their dead horses in the middle of the road, and created laws that would penalize people for doing so. The pic I posted is purportedly of one of those instances. You can read about it here if so inclined.

I relocated that thread, after a complaint, to discuss it with the other moderators. Although it was my intention to re-open it, after seeing what has transpired since, there is no good reason to do so.

Am I the only one that thinks that I will never be chosen as a "Moderator".

That's the most inspirational off-topic remark I have seen in the five years I have participated in this forum. Well done Larry.
