as electricians, (vs plumbers) when we cut threads on rigid conduit, is it supposed to have a taper to the threads? i seem to remember a code requirement that stated so...
i was told today that plumbers use a tapered thread, and we do not...
but i have been taught in the past that the tapered threads are the 'right way' to thread conduit.

Re: threading rigid conduit

344.28 Reaming and Threading. All cut ends shall be reamed or otherwise finished to remove rough edges. Where conduit is threaded in the field, a standard cutting die with a 1 in 16 taper (3/4-in. taper per foot) shall be used. :D

I was told that the plumbers were not tapered from the factory but were threaded tapered in the field. Don't quote me on this I have also heard the opposite. Sorry I couldn't help more.

yall are simply confirming what i was already so sure of....

its just that when a 'Journeyman' (you have to use that term VERY lightly in Arkansas, State of the Grandfather clause) tells me something like that, and then takes the time to show me, -like im a FREAKING MORON- and is sooo sure that Thats The Way It Is, ......
i get so discouraged....

are there ANY states out there where Electricians ACTUALLY ARE Electricians ?????
and actually halfass Know the code? Or CARE???

sometimes i think i oughtta just go work at McDonalds....

You will also notice that Justin and I both answered within two minutes of each other. That means that I posted while Justin was typing. We were not trying to beat you up over this. :D

Hang in there, Izak. I thought AR was a tough state? My sister was dating a guy there, he mentioned schooling and time and stuff...?

Are you just having trouble with a grandfathered journeyman, or something?

(Edit: I was born and have family in Fayetteville--where you at?)
