Can a rigid threadless connector be utilized in an installation where explosion proof seals and box's are applied. The room is not considered to be a hazordous location, however, the engineer is requesting this particular application. The room is a two hour rated room that is fabricated out of CMU. The risers are coming from underground, one is the line side entering the room and the other is load side leaving the room to an exterior outlet. The risers were cut short and the threads are no longer there. By line and load I mean in and out.

Are you thinking of an EYSR? It's a retro fit normally, and needs threads....

If the engineer is requiring the use of an explosion proof seal off, you would have to install it per the installation instruction of the fitting, which is required per 110.3(B). The threadless connector is not listed to be used with an explosion proof fitting, and would violate 110.3(B). You may argue the fitting is not being used in a hazardous location; however it does come with installation instruction which you would be required to follow.
