Frank: Remember that the definition of approved is simply: acceptable to the authority having jurisdiction. That being said, only your local AHJ could tell you.

I do it for short runs But I have seen where all the wires in the basement was ty-raped to the ceiling and about five years later they were dry-rotted and started to fail, allowing the wires to droop across the basement, So I wouldn't use them for the sole means of support. maybe just to pick up the slack in between proper support.
