I had that happen to me. Once. I won't use them again.

The idea is to fabricate, on the jobsite, a pulling grip from soft iron tiewire?

Or is this a grip to be left in place for verticle cable support?

In either case, what would be the advantages over using a store bought grip made out of what looks like braided SS piano wire?

If he is that much of a TA, you probably are lacking other things to make this pull go easier as well.
