Tie Wire Question

I used to tie wire everything back in the 80's and early 90's in Dade County. Used to be, pipe or AC on top of support, you'd tie wire, underneath you'd use another approved method. I was told by many inspectors in the mid 90's that tie wire was not an UL approved means of support and was no longer alowed. I was recently put on a job in Miami Beach where not only was the emt supported everywhere with tie wire, but the MC was also being supported with tie wire. I can understand above bar joists with emt, but tie wire on MC? I'm used to Caddy for supports, 3/8 one holes, and a plithera of other "UL" approved support devices. Is there anyone out there with a deffinited NEC refference to it's limitations of use or is it just a AHJ decision? I'm not sure I like the ideal of tie wire cutting through MC. What about tie wiring EMT to a unistrut trapeze assembly? Code references please.

insurffer, 358.30. is for support of EMT, it does not require 'listed' supports, tie wire, imo,

works better than many built for the purpose.
