Tie wiring can lights to ceiling grid?

A previous company i worked for would usually tie wire can lights to the ceiling grid to secure them. The company i work for now does nothing but lay the can lights on the grid and it makes it a little more difficult to put the trim in without the whole can light pushing up with it. I was wondering what the code says about tying lights to ceiling
grid.

Halo's residential cans have a bar that works for wood joists or ceiling grid. I usually then screw that to the grid

I would screw them to grid. You also are likely to need a grid wire from can to the truss or roof , but that is not nec.
