Life Safety and Critical have to come on in 10 seconds (although now that critical is divored from Article 700, I'm not sure that's any longer defined - is it).

But my real question concerns the Equipment branch. 517 talks about automatic connection to generator and certain loads which may be manually switched over, but I don't see a time frame for the former of these? Is it in FNAP 99 by chance? Or is it in the NEC and I'm missing it?

Thanks,

Mike

The Equipment Branch does not fall under the "less than 10 second" requirement, you can think of it as an "optional stand by" load. These loads can be connected at any time.

This may apply.
also this that was too big to upload:

NFPA 110-2013, Chapter 8 Routine Maintenance and Operational Testing.pdf

NFPA 110-2013 does not require the ATS's to transfer in 10 seconds or less, See the attached:

Attached Chapter 8 of NFPA 110

- Section 8.4.3 - "ATS can be tested by simulating a power outage using the test switch(es) on the ATSs or by opening a normal breaker. Opening a normal breaker shall not be required."

- Section 8.4.6 - ATS's are to be tested monthly.

- Section 8.4.6.2 - "The criteria set forth in Section 4.3 and in Table 4.1 (b) shall not be required during the monthly testing of the EPSS.".

- - The rest of the paragraph tells what to do if the tests do not meet requirements of Section 4.3 and Table 4.1(b).

Attached is Section 4.3 and Table 4.1(b).
