I just ordered myself a new pair of Red Wing Worx boots (still made in U.S.A.!!!) to alternate with my old Wolverine Durashocks that I have been wearing for the last 4 or 5 years. My Wolverines have been subject to alot of abuse, scuffs, scrapes, mud, salt, oils, and various chemicals.... I broke out the saddle soap and gave them a good scrubbing a couple days ago, and let them dry completely, and today I picked up a new container of Sno-Seal, its similar to mink oil how its applied, but its made from bees wax and seals water out better in my opinion. My game plan is to alternate between the boots each day to allow them to dry out between each pairs use. Anyone else do any special prep for the winter snow and slush?

I do the same thing with two pairs of wolverine dura shocks got one pair that laces and a second pair of rancher style slip on boot. I wear the lace up mostly all year round but alternate between the two during the winter about every couple of weeks. I use the sno seal on both as well I agree they make a bettter seal. And my dog likes the beeze wax smell too.

I have two pairs of Red Wings, both the same. I clean them and polish them about every 6 or 8 weeks. I wear them in two-week cycles. I swap them out every first and third monday.

I never wear the same pair of boots two days in a row.

Anyone else do any special prep for the winter snow and slush?
Problem here is sweat, sometimes ground water when digging, and rain, oh the rain. Always let today's pair dry out for a day.

Generally my boot care plan consists of swearing I'll start to take better care of this new pair than I did of the last pair and then quickly ignoring my pledge. Occaisionally they'll get a brush off and then some spray silicone. Currently wearing "Rocky" boots. I was not personally impressed w/ Red Wing when I had a pair. Too much money, not enough boot.

does anyone else have problems with boot laces? I have pretty good luck with the original pair that come from the factory, but it seems that replacement laces dont last any time at all, I currently have leather laces in my boots, but I recently found out that they make laces for mountain climbers out of Kevlar, I think I will order a pair to keep on hand and try them out, anyone ever used them?

speaking of boots,

has anyone tried the timberland PRO titan series? i saw an ad for them on TV the other day.

I used to have a pair of timberland casual boots that were extremely comfortable, and i'm thinking about giving these pro boots a shot.

any experience with them?

Snow?? Slush?? I plan on wearing my golf shoes tommorow afternoon for about a 7200 Yd stroll. I put away the golf sandals and broke out the traditional spikes, does that count?

7200 yds is if you walk straight. Are you that good.

my cat likes shoe laces, especially the factory ones. I don't think kevlar would make a difference, but I might give it a try.

I do the same but the first time I use SNO seal on I put a helthy amount on and thn bake my boots in the oven at a very very low temp.... Like 150..... I monitor it and watch the laces. I do this to melt the sno seal into the leather. Then I take them out let them dry and re apply. My boot have a sheen to them and NEVER get wet. The water seeps between the stitches before it goes through the leather. It does stink the house up a bit.

In my twenties, I wore Red Wings. In my thirties, I wore Wolverines. Both brand of boots always wore out after six months. I'm still a fan of both brands.

Now I wear Ariat slip-ons. They are comfortable and look great. I still tear them up inside of six months or less.

I wish the soles lasted longer so I could take care of the uppers.

I only have one pair of boots. For 9 years now I have bought the Red Wing thinsulate Goretex lined boots. I regularly treat them with the "goop" from Red Wing. I generally get two years, or very nearly out of each pair. It's sooo nice to have nice warm feet, and never have to worry about wet feet.

I have a pair of timberland pro series, I can't find a link to my current pair, maybe discontinued; 2 years old... the leather on the toes were getting holes within a year, and then they leaked all last winter, nothing a few grocery bags couldn't fix  sides haven't split yet though:D The padding needs to be replaced every 6 months, I typically have 2 sets of padding in there. The only reason I haven't gotten new ones is that I have been working indoors for the last 8 months :D They are very comfortable when new and not abused. I'd say pass on them if looking for just a work boot.

Red wing makes an epoxy that can be applied to the front of the boot, to alleviate your destroying the leather, and exposing the toe or steel toe.

They warranty it for the life of the boot.

Since I am like most of you here, I go through boots rather quickly, I got more than one application. Red Wing will apply it for you and it doesn't cost any more. I figure they do a better job at applying it than I will, so why not.

Definately like them Red Wings!
