When the cable co came in to update my service, the tech had me "sign" his cell phone. He indicated it kept track of where he had been and was sent new work orders as needed.

I am guessing his application is unique to Charter, but does anyone know of a similar app that may work for my small shop? Googling time tracking did not give me what I wanted.

GPS in the trucks does the same thing and some companies generate really nice reports.

We use GPS systems in our service trucks. Really helps out when a customer disputes the time spent on jobsite. There are several companies that do these, we us Fleetmatics. google them and you will find the website.

Don't forget the cable company in not like the electrical service business, their service calls are supported with the 1000% mark-up on the programing billing, and they only track the service calls to offset accounts, not a profit center, Electrical contractors doing service calls usually bill flate rates to avoid customer complaints.

were required to call in on arrival of every job site and departure as well as every lunch. This way if boss wants to swing by he knowes where we betta be. Had one guy who had the balls to take the van to his house and drink a few brewskies on the clock. Boss drove past the house saw his van radioed and asked where he was guy told him he was on jobsite. needless to say boss wasnt very happy ever since we have to radio in every job. real pita but understandable

I an pretty sure nextel offers tracking fo about an extra 10 bucks a month. Find any employee anytime even off dutyas long as the phone is on.

We just got a Tom Tom GPS for the service van... wonder if I could track that?

My laptop with GPS connection does a wonderful job of tracking and reporting. Just to much stuff in the front seat when you add it to all the other stuff I need. You wouldn't think it would take that much more to make my Nuvi record & report back to shop everytime it got within range of a wireless connetion.
