My daughter's home insurance company is offering a free WI-fi device called Ting that plugs into one outlet and it is supposed help protect the home from arc fault fires and provides "power quality" information for the home owner. A combination arc fault breaker or arc fault replacement receptacle only detects arcs on that circuit downstream of the device is what I believe and don't think a single monitoring point has any value to the rest of the house. Is there new technology I don't know about?
The value of the unit they say is that it reports any large voltage changes "brownouts" or arc faults for the home owner through Wi-fi to the monitoring company and repair or replacement can begin immediately. Insurance company pays for the first 3 years of monitoring.
