It sucks. My truck has never broken into but I had the wiring in a large home torn out to about 85%. Even though I got reimbursed and paid to wire it again I felt totally violated. When I lived in NYC this was a common occurrence.

In one part of NYC where my dad did some work he would have a helper sit in the truck so it didn't get ripped off. I think it happened every time he went there and then he said no more unless they pay for a guy to sit in the truck.

Been there - was once unloading my van in a rainstorm and moving things from the loading dock to the front of the store with my helper - locking it up between trips, then we started to go to work and then I remembered we needed one more thing and since the helper "had to make a phone call" I decided to get it myself.

It hadn't been 5 minutes from our last trip but when I opened the van something wasn't right - most of my tools were gone but not all - they had left in a hurry. I suspect my helper was calling in the plays from inside!

No broken glass or anything - I actually thought I must have left the van unlocked but they just took a screwdriver and cracked the plastic around the passenger's door handle (Ford) and just popped the door open - another reason I suspect the helper - why not the driver's door or the slider where the tool sitting close too?

Well I told the boss what I suspected and had a new helper the next day and he noticed the fine crack in nicer weather.

Hope your insurance cover it!

I made the mistake of leaving my tools in the garage of the residence I was working at. The garage door got kicked in overnight and all my powertools, generator, compressor, etc..were stolen. It was a rough part of town and I should have known better. After that, I still kept them in the garage, but they were locked up with a Kryptonite cable lock. That was an expensive lesson. Being ripped off is still in the back of my mind and I even improved the security of my garage at home.

hope you still have a saw to cut off thier damn hands when they catch em, stealing a mans tools that he makes a living with is the lowest form of life around. If they worked at working as hard as they did stealing they would be o.k.!

ripped off

ripped off

last year Christmas Eve they broke into my van (my helper uses), smashed the steering wheel trying to start it, busted out my head & tail lights, cut the electrical line to the trailer, and didn't steal anything. Last month I finally had the money to replace the van. Ready to get ripped off again for Christmas!

I handle my Work Orders on a laptop. I left it unattended for about 1 min inside my customer store, with my tools on top of it. I returned and my tools were there but my laptop was gone. As I looked over the security video...the dirtbags were cleaning out my truck. 4 rolls of 12/2 MC, about 2500' of #12 thhn and my GOJO handi wipes! HANDI WIPES!!!! WHO STEALS HANDIWIPES? I try to tell myself that I hope they were stealing to feed thier family and that I hope they are able to do that. But, I am fairly sure that is not why they are doing it. Stinkin Thieves.
