Take a look at 404.7.

Chris

Chris I have to disagree. 404.7 is for general use and motor circuit switches not toggle or snap switches that I believe the op is referring to.

But a General-use snap switch (Toggle switch) is a form of General-use switch according to the definition in Article 100.

There is a general use switch and a general use snap switch. The snap switch is a form of general use switch but has a different section in 404. Art 404.10(B). It does not say they must be mounted vertically.

I am not convinced that only section 404.9 and 404.10 apply to gereral-use snap switches.

Explain how a 3 way switch, snap switch , can comply with 404.7

Nevermind I see the exception. But I still think thaat 404.7 is not for snap switches. The wording does not make sense "where mounted in enclosures as described in 404.3"

The more I read section 404.7 the more I think you are right. I guess I have been looking at switches wrong all these years. :D

I guess I am going to start to install my SP switches so they say "no" :D

Well the op's question was could they be installed sideways(horizontally). Yes is still the answer in either case
