Toning out underground

I have a project in which the branch circuit feeding light poles had the conduit removed during grading of a landscape area. Client is asking us to determine direction conduit goes to intercept. Is anyone aware of a toner that is strong enough to read 24 or so down through asphalt?

I'd try to find a plumber with a drain camera small enough to fit in the conduit. Most plumbing cameras have a locator system that will work at far deeper than 24".

My tone generator we use for phones will easily do two feet. If conduit is pvc, shove a fish tape in as far as you can. Put tone gen on it. Metal? Attach smallest wire you can to fish tape, shove it in. Make sure it is insulated, then use tone generator.
