What is the calculation for the total load service in amps of an 1,800 SF home, with an 11kW range and 6 kW, 240 V dryer?

Try to calculate this yourself, then show us your answer and the method you used to arrive at the answer. Someone will tell you if your correct or direct you through the correct steps.

Look through article 220 and the examples in the back of the code book. Once you have the information on the appliances, heat, a/c, etc. the actual calculation should only take a few minutes to perform.

My calculations so far

My calculations so far

3 x 1800 SF = 5400
1500 x 2 = 3000
1500 x 1 = 1500
9900 total
9900-3000=6900
6900 x 35% = 2415
3000 + 2415 = 5415 total net load excluding range and dryer.

Is this correct thus far? I am confused on how to figure range and dryer.

5415 is right. i don't have my code book in front of me and i can't recite the code number for this, but i figure the dryer @ 5.5kva and range @ 8kva --

what about your other appliances?

4500va water heater
1400kva fridge
1500va microwave
1200va dishwasher
10kva heat
--------------------

these are things you can pretty much gaurantee will be there unless they have some gas appliances.

i may get legs in a few minutes and go get the code book out, but i can't be sure.

For the dryer, look at 220.54

For the Range look at Table 220.55 and read Note #2 very carefully. Ref. Column C

After this, what do you come up with?
